In this course, you will learn why keeping financial information accurate and up to date is essential in any workplace. You will explore the key responsibilities of a bookkeeper, including data entry, checking bank statements, managing accounts receivable and payable, and producing reports that help business owners make informed decisions.

You will develop a solid understanding of core bookkeeping concepts, including assets, liabilities, income, expenses, capital, and profit or loss. You will learn the difference between trading for cash and trading on credit, and gain practical skills in processing customer and supplier transactions, entering receipts and payments, and preparing for bank reconciliation. You will also be introduced to the dual effect of transactions - the foundation of double-entry bookkeeping - to prepare you for further study at Level 2.

You will explore how bookkeeping software supports financial management, comparing cloud-based and traditional systems, and learn how to keep data secure. Throughout the course, you will also develop your understanding of ethical behaviour, confidentiality, and the importance of data protection in professional practice.
